Important Information:

There are many implications that can affect your player in a negative manner if they do not participate in tryouts. For example, they could be placed in the division below, they could be placed as a hat pick during the draft, or your player could not be eligible to play at all this season. These are specific rules set by Little League International and we must follow these rules. If you are unable to attend any of the tryouts dates, please contact the President, Richard Vanderzanden at president@woodcreeklittleleague.com immediately.

Families will be contacted the week of February 8th with team information.

Parents are NOT ALLOWED in or around the Dugouts. During tryouts, we request that parents limit their interaction with their players and working Board Members to allow the tryout process move smoothly and on time. Thank you so much for understanding!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does my player have to tryout? What happens if they don't?

AA, AAA, Majors, and Juniors Divisions will select players at a formal draft based on tryouts. Per Little League rules, players in Majors and Juniors are required to tryout to be eligible to play the Spring Season. If a player does not attend tryouts the following will occur:

Juniors and 12-year-olds in Majors: Ineligible to play

10 and 11-year-olds in Majors: Will be pushed down to AAA as a hat pick at the end of the draft

10 and 11-year-olds in AAA: Will be a hat pick at the end of the draft

8 and 9-year-olds in AAA: Will be pushed down to AA as a hat pick at the end of the draft

All players in AA: Will be a hat pick at the end of the draft

What if my player is injured, sick, or cannot attend tryouts?

A player not able to attend due to injury, illness, or other reason will require board approval to have their player be considered part of the draft for the division registered for. Any player that does not request board approval will be subject to the outcomes above.

Can I change my player's tryouts, or do I just show up?

Due to the number of players attending tryouts, our schedule will be very tight and we ask that you attend tryouts on the day you selected. If you are not able to attend on the day selected, please contact the Registrar to request a different date.

What can I expect my player to do at the tryout?

Format for tryouts will be:

  • 3 pop fly balls to outfield. Catch and throw to player at 2nd base.
  • Move to Shortstop.
  • 3 Grounders to shortstop and throw to player at 1st base.
  • Move to 2nd base to catch throws from next player in the outfield.
  • Move to 1st base to catch throws from shortstop.
  • Pitching Machine (or coach pitch) – batters will be given a total of 4 pitches. The first one is to time and the last 3 are to swing at. After the last pitch, whether ball is hit or not, batter will run to 1st, round through 2nd and ending at 3rd base.

What does my player wear or need to bring?

Your player should wear what he or she would wear to practice in: baseball pants, tee shirt (bring a sweatshirt), protective cup, hat, glove, cleats, helmet and USA stamped bat approved for Little League. Woodcreek Little League will have a handful of approved batting helmets and bats for use if needed. Also, please have your player bring a water bottle. In addition, It will be cold, and we will move forward with tryouts, please have your player prepared for that!

How long will my player(s) be at tryouts?

On average, your player’s tryout will last 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours. This could vary depending on day of registrations, weather, player’s abilities, and their ability to stay focused and follow directions during the entire tryout process.
