WOODCREEK LITTLE LEAGUE 2019 POSTSEASON REVIEW
Just some statistics to round out the 2019 Spring Season:
Woodcreek Little League had total of 52 teams:
10 T-ball teams
11 Farm teams
11 AA teams
10 AAA teams
5 Major teams
5 Junior teams
That is 630 players and over 200 volunteers!
And...19 inches of rain!
District 54
Tournament of Champions
Juniors
– Giants – Champions
Woodcreek hosted the Juniors District 54 TOC at newly-renovated
Mahany Park. The Junior Division Giants, managed by Tim Peters, represented
WLL. The Giants defeated Roseville West, Folsom American, and then defeated
Maidu to take the D54 championship banner.
Majors –
Indians – Runner Up
The Brett Tujague-managed Woodcreek Indians
powered through Roseville West at Snowline, then rolled through Folsom American
and Maidu B in east Roseville. In front of a raucus crowd at Maidu Park, the
Indians fell to the Maidu D54 Championship game.
Majors – Yankees – 3rd round
The Woodcreek Yankees, managed by Chris Murray,
played at both Snowline and Maidu. The Yankees played three very competitive
games, beating Ponderosa A and Ponderosa B before succumbing to Consumnes River
in the 3rd round.

Similar to the TOCs, the Tim Peters-led
Woodcreek Juniors All Stars dominated the D54 competition at Mahany Park.
Woodcreek defeated Folsom National, Maidu, Roseville West, and Maidu again in
the D54 championship game.
The Section 4 tournament was hosted at James
Field in Auburn. Woodcreek outscored their opponents 50-5 and downed Carmichael,
Land Park Pacific, and Auburn en route to the Section 4 championship banner.
Next for the Woodcreek Juniors was the NorCal
Championship hosted by Visalia at Mt. Whitney High School. After an opening
round loss to Livermore, Woodcreek battled past Gilroy and Santa Rosa before
losing a close 4th round game to Livermore.
12's - 2nd Place District 54

Munoz, Aaron Palmer, Caleb Peck, Dante Ruggiero, Bryson
Ruiz, Connor Stephens. and Chase Yukawa
Lindsay’s 12 year olds all stars jelled
quickly and battled a stacked D54 bracket at Folsom National’s Mann Park. After
an opening round victory over El Dorado Hills, Woodcreek was sent to the losers
bracket by last year’s 11s champions, Maidu. Woodcreek rallied back with wins
over Consumnes River, Roseville West, Folsom American and Folsom National. In a
well fought game Woodcreek fell 5-3 to Maidu. The Maidu squad went on to win
the Section 4 and NorCal tournaments, advancing all the way to the semi-finals
of the LLWS West Regionals.

The Woodcreek 11 year old all stars had a
frenetic 2 weeks of morning and evening practices to prepare for D54
competition hosted by Folsom American at McFarland Park. McAvoy’s 11s had
plenty of hitters and outscored their opponents 40-18. After losing a late lead
to Maidu in game 1, Woodcreek’s pitchers shut out Consumnes River and Folsom
National on consecutive nights in east Folsom. In a fourth round rematch with
Maidu, Woodcreek thought they had advanced to the quarterfinals but a reversed
game ending call sent the teams to extra innings, where Maidu outlasted
Woodcreek 10-9 in 8 innings.
9/10's - 2nd Place District 54

The Woodcreek 10s entered D54 competition with lots of
confidence when they walked onto the field at Roseville West’s Charlie Edwards
Field. After a tough first game against El Dorado Hills, the Woodcreek boys
battled through the losers bracket including convincing wins over Folsom
National, Roseville West, Folsom American, Ponderosa, Lakeside and Maidu. In
their 6-game win streak they outscored their D54 opponents 77-16. The 10s run
came to end in the D54 championship game, losing to El Dorado Hills 10-6.

Extra special Thank you to our Tournament Director, Phil McAvoy who brought the Jr. District Championship and All Star Tournament to Mahany. It was a blast to have those Tournaments at Mahany and we appreciated all the work that went into it!
