FIELD STATUS FAQ:
Q: Why are fields often closed if the sun is out and it’s not raining?
A: Field Conditions are assessed daily (when in question) and if fields are too saturated from (previous) rain it becomes a safety issue for the players. Field closure decisions are determined on the amount of rain we get, the amount of moisture already on the fields and the condition of the fields in question. It can take SEVERAL days of sun and wind to dry them out and make them playable.
Ensuring player safety and preventing injury is our PRIORITY. We literally try everything to get access to the fields but safety comes first. (also playing on fields when they are saturated will worsen their condition, and prolong the time it takes before they are open again).
Q: Who determines the field closures?
A: The city of Roseville determines closures of Roseville Fields. The city controls all city parks. If the city closes them, we cannot use them or we will be liable for any injuries or field damages caused.
Q: Is there a time deadline for unification of field closures?
A: We usually are always inquiring throughout the day if it is questionable, however we try to make every effort to announce field closures around 3pm the day of. Since the city regularly updates the field condition website at 3pm, we will usually know at that point if they are closed, open or re-inspect. If a field is noted as re-inspect, we need additional time to try to check those fields before deciding if they are safe to play on. We have to follow the city’s protocol, noted on the inclement weather policy, for re-inspecting fields. **Sometimes we try to wait and long as possible to see if we can get games in....we want the players to play as much as possible!
Q: Why are our fields closed sometimes and others are not?
A: Different fields drain differently and are a different quality. Mahany fields are literally sitting on top of marshland and the water saturation level is already high.
Q: Who maintains the fields that Woodcreek Little League uses?
A: The city is responsible for all outlying fields. WLL is not allowed to do any work on them. WLL is responsible for the INFIELDS ONLY at Mahany and the City is responsible for the outfields. So, there might be times the infields look great, but because the outfield is too wet to be mowed by the city with their heavy equipment, they cannot mow them, and they remain to wet to play on.
We are all anxious to play baseball and for the gorgeous sun to come out and stay out!!!
RAIN MAKE UPS
We want you all to know we are working hard at getting every rained out game rescheduled. There are certain rules that we must follow in getting games rescheduled; such as double headers, minimum games needing to be played, etc. Since we must have all Junior division, Majors division, AAA division and AA division play at Mahany with pitching mounds, we must get those divisions rescheduled at Mahany first. We are also working on getting all Farm and T-ball games rescheduled at our outlying fields as well as at Mahany when we have an opening. The board has made the schedule/rescheduling of games our #1 priority. We request your patience while we make sure to get every game we can rescheduled and on the books. Please plan on there being some 3 games a week for your teams at some point and plan on the league getting creative to make it all happen. We are committed to you and your player! Your time and financial investment in the league was not so your player could watch games get canceled due to rain, and not try to get them all rescheduled. Our number one goal is to get every team the games we promised at the start of the season. Hang in there with us! We promise to try to get your players on the field for ALL of their games!
